05. Information on acrylic casted sheets |

 |
THERMOPLASTIC MATERIAL
1) Specific weight:1.2 g/cm3
2) Softening temperature: 85-90degrees
3) Resistance to chemical agents: good vs acid, alkali, oils, gasoline
4) Light transmission: 93%
5) Glueing: chloroform, reactive glue or specific two components
glue.

| |
|
|
 |
 |
6) Sawing
Use a circular saw at 2000-4000 rpm speed
A 300mm diameter disc will have a 2.2mm thick blade and 96 crossed
teeth
A 350mm diameter disc will have a 3.2mm thick blade and 84 crossed
teeth

7) Piercing
Use a normal drill, blunt the edge of the drill and sharpen the tip
|
| |
|
|
 |
 |
8) To mill and engrave:
machines at elevated rounds, up to 20.000 r.p.m..
Utilize utensils in Vidia or diamond. |
| |
|
|
 |
 |
9) To round:
same speed as wood ( 3mt per second).
With machines at elevated rounds the outcome has shiny surfaces.
|
| |
|
|
| |
 |
10) Polishing
To polish, after grinding the surface use disc cleaners with 300 mm
soft fabric disc at 1400-2800 rpm.
First use an abrasive paste to rough out and then a dry paste to polish.
To polish the edges use polishers with diamond tools.
Tumbling is a two phase finishing used to round off edges and to polish
small surface that are not too brittle.

11) Hot processing
Cut the sheets in the desired size plus 5% for the edge, then put
it in an air circulation oven at 150 degrees.after put the mould on
the sheet until the material becomes solid.
The mould must be made of wood or chalk and its surface must be non
porous.

12) Laser cut:
leaves a shiny border and according to the potency we have different
answer:
60Watt: thickness:3/4mm speed:2cm/sec. ca.
max thickness:10mm speed:0,8cm/sec. ca.
1.000Watt: thickness:3/4mm speed: 10cm/sec. ca
Thickness:20mm speed:0,1cm/sec. ca
